Instructions

Bangers & Mash

  1. Boil potatoes in a saucepan for 15 minutes
  2. Add 3/4 of butter and sour cream and mash. Season
  3. Grill sausages in pan or on BBQ for approx 15 minutes
  4. Steam green beans in boiling water for 8 minutes
Gravy
  1. Add 1 tbsp oil, remaining butter, sage and onion for 5 minutes to a saucepan.
  2. Remove mixture and whisk stock and flour together over heat in pan for approx 4 minutes.
  3. Add tomato paste and onion mixture, bring to boil then simmer for 10 minutes. Season.
Serve bangers on mash with gravy, chopped parsley and beans.

Very simple but delicious dish. I suggest adding more vegies though as just not enough for 4 hungry adults.

AWESOME! Kids loved it. Beautiful sauce, would go well with steak too. We also added steamed carrot and broccoli and boiled corn on the cob. Have had it several times. Its a shame that something this good can be called something so ordinary.

Why do they call them "Bangers"? A Goon Show episode called "The Jet-propelled NAAFI" produced one explanation. . . . Gritpype Thynne wanted to blow up the NAAFI so he and Moriarty packed some dynamite and told Bluebottle that it was a pack of sausages. He was told to put them in the oven, with the not unexpected result. After the explosion died down, we waited to hear the usual Bluebottle cry "Arrrr! You've deaded me again". But not this time. His response was "Ah! So that's why they call them Bangers!"
